A passionate storyteller, Barbara Avon has always found magic in words. Growing up Italian in the vibrant Niagara Falls Region, Barbara attended Notre Dame High School before earning her degree from Brock University. In 1999, she relocated to Ottawa to pursue career opportunities, quickly embedding herself in the city’s creative pulse. During her time in Ottawa, Barbara gained valuable experience working with two major area magazines, sharpening her skills as a communicator and artist.

Barbara’s journey as an author began long before adulthood. A shy child with an active imagination, she crafted stories in her mind as a means of self-expression. A pivotal moment came in Grade 9 when her English teacher rewarded one of her short stories with an A+, affirming Barbara’s talent and fueling her dream of writing novels. That dream soon became reality.

As a versatile, multi-genre author, Barbara has explored a diverse range of storytelling realms, including Romance, Romantic Thrillers, Time Travel, Mystery, Horror, and Paranormal Romance. Her dynamic storytelling style captivates readers, transporting them to worlds rich in emotion, suspense, and wonder. Barbara’s work has been featured in various anthologies, including Steering 23 Publications, Storytime for Grownups, and Beyond the Levee. Her accomplishments have earned critical acclaim, including the recognition of her horror novel, Revived, as “Horror Book of the Year” by the “Feed My Reads” community in October 2022. Most recently, her novel, Sultry Is the Night, was awarded the prestigious Literary Titan Gold Medal for Fiction in February 2025.

When she’s not writing, Barbara enjoys channeling her creativity into cooking, indulging her love for reading, winding down with classic 1980s movies, and dreaming of her next novel. A firm believer in the extraordinary power of love and storytelling, she is often quoted saying, “I believe in magic. Books are magic. Love is the most remarkable magic.”
