J.D.R. Hawkins is an Amazon, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestselling, award-winning author. As one of the few female writers specializing in the American Civil War, she offers a rare perspective by portraying the front lines from a Confederate viewpoint. Her acclaimed “Renegade Series” begins with A Beautiful Glittering Lie, winner of the 2013 John Esten Cooke Fiction Award and the 2012 B.R.A.G. Medallion, followed by A Beckoning Hellfire, an Amazon bestseller and 2022 B.R.A.G. Medallion recipient.

The series continues with A Rebel Among Us, winner of the 2017 John Esten Cooke Fiction Award and a 2022 B.R.A.G. Medallion, and Double-Edged Sword, honored with both the 2023 John Esten Cooke Fiction Award and the 2023 B.R.A.G. Medallion. Together, these books trace the emotional and physical hardships endured by a north Alabama family whose lives are forever altered by the devastation of war. Hawkins has also expanded the world of the series with the short stories A Becharmed Callie Christmas and Fool’s Gold Folly.

In addition to her fiction, Hawkins has written a nonfiction work, Horses in Gray: Famous Confederate Warhorses, further showcasing her deep knowledge of the era. She is an active member of several literary and historical organizations, including the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Historical Novel Society, the International Women’s Writing Guild, Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers, and Pikes Peak Writers. Beyond writing, she is also an accomplished artist and singer/songwriter.
