Jane Doucet

Jane Doucet writes irreverent novels full of humour and heart—the kind of books she likes to read herself.

Jane is a journalist whose articles have appeared in myriad Canadian magazines and newspapers, including Chatelaine, Canadian Living andThe Globe and Mail. She never planned to write fiction, but when she looked for a lighthearted novel about motherhood indecision that didn’t end with “She had a baby and lived happily ever after,” she couldn’t find any. That’s when she got the (absurd!) idea to try writing one. In 2017 Jane self-published her debut novel, The Pregnant Pause, which was shortlisted for a 2018 Whistler Independent Book Award.

Shortly before launching The Pregnant Pause, an idea for another novel popped into Jane’s head. “Nope,” she told herself sternly. “Writing a book is hard work.” But it was an itch she couldn’t stop scratching. In June 2021, Vagrant Press, the fiction imprint of Nimbus Publishing, released her second novel, Fishnets & Fantasies, about a married couple in their late 50s who open a sex shop in tiny, tourist-friendly Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.

Vagrant Press rereleased The Pregnant Pause with a new coverin spring 2023,then in fall 2023 published Jane’s third novel, Lost & Found in Lunenburg, which combines characters from her other books. Jane lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with her husband. She’s working on her fourth novel, a cozy murder mystery.
