Patricia Asedegbega Nieto: A Master Storyteller Blending Emotion, Suspense, and Humour
The Making of “To the Moon and Back”
Patricia’s novel “…To the Moon and Back” is a testament to her ability to explore profound themes with sensitivity and relatability. She reveals that ideas for her stories spring from a variety of sources: a memory, a glance, a word, or even random interactions on the street. Once she grasps a concept, her vivid imagination takes over, crafting intricate plots and developing characters that feel deeply authentic.
“…To the Moon and Back deals with several situations that are sadly common to a lot of people,” Patricia explains. “One can’t help but understand the different characters and their complexities.” Anne, the central figure in this series, holds a special place in Patricia’s heart. Patricia reflects on Anne’s inner strength as she faces difficult decisions, saying, “Though she comes close to doing so, she doesn’t break under pressure.” The series continues to grow, with Patricia currently working on its second volume.
Balancing Emotional Depth with Humour
In addition to her suspense-infused novels, Patricia’s works offer readers moments of levity, most notably through the creation of Balou, a much-loved, opinionated feline character. Initially introduced in her novel “I Stand Corrected”, Balou provides a lighthearted counterpoint in what is otherwise a dark, intense story. The beloved cat recently demanded the spotlight in “Balou Uncensored”, where his humorous personality shines as he educates readers about how he believes he should be treated. Patricia confirms his return in the upcoming third novel in The Rosary and Balou Mystery series.
Patricia draws inspiration for Balou from years of observing her own cats and shares that writing from Balou’s perspective frequently makes her laugh. “Balou is never wrong; he knows everything and always solves the crime before anyone else, there’s no convincing him otherwise,” she quips.
Themes of Hope and Second Chances
Patricia’s work aims not just to entertain but also to inspire. She seeks to infuse her stories with a sense of hope, reminding readers that it’s never too late to chase dreams or rewrite their life’s narrative. “As long as we are alive, there’s always the opportunity to turn the page and write a new chapter,” she says.
Her books are intricately layered, offering gripping suspense and unexpected twists that leave readers enthralled. Patricia’s ability to surprise her audience is one of her trademarks, and she treasures the feedback she receives, particularly from readers who enjoy the unexpected endings woven into her work.
Navigating Challenges and Embracing the Creative Process
Despite her dislike for the marketing aspect of being an author, Patricia is deeply committed to every other part of the creative process. From writing the first sentence to designing the cover, she invests herself wholly in her projects. “I’d be happy just writing and writing and not having to do anything for my work to get to my readers, listeners, and viewers,” she admits candidly.
Alongside her novels, Patricia has ventured into the production of audio and web series, showcasing her versatility in storytelling across multiple platforms. “I combine my publishing of novels with the writing and production of Audio Series both in English and in Spanish,” she shares, highlighting her passion for creating stories that transcend mediums and languages.
What Lies Ahead
Looking to the future, Patricia hints at an exciting lineup of projects for 2025, which include sequels to her existing novels and fresh content for her YouTube channel. She describes the nervous anticipation she feels when sharing her work with audiences, likening it to awaiting exam results. “I’m constantly feeling like I’m about to find out the results of a particularly difficult exam when people are about to read, listen, or view my work,” she confesses. But for Patricia, the reward is more than worth the effort.
As a writer, Patricia Asedegbega Nieto skillfully combines suspense, emotional depth, and vibrant characters to craft stories that stay with readers long after the final page. Whether delving into human resilience through Anne’s journey or sparking joy and laughter with the incomparable Balou, Patricia is a true maestro of storytelling whose works continue to enchant and inspire audiences worldwide.
